AVSS – Aerial Vehicle Safety Solutions (AVSS) is proud to announce that they have completed the third-party testing requirements for the newly released ASTM F3322-24a with their PRS-M30, designed for the DJI M30 Series.
Completing the ASTM F3322-24a is critical for enabling drones to legally and safely fly over people. By completing this updated industry-led testing standard, AVSS enables commercial drone pilots to fly over people in numerous countries.
After completing the compliance testing on Friday, March 28th, AVSS turned around and shipped the first batch of parachutes to end users and dealers in North America and Europe on the same day.
AVSS is now taking new orders for their PRS-M30, which will be delivered to customers throughout Q2, 2025.
The timing of the compliance and product shipment bodes well for public safety agencies in the USA with the recently announced FAA Certificate of Waiver (COW) process for Drone-as-Responder (DFR) in Shielded Operations.
As stated in a LinkedIn post by the Drone Responders leadership team, this new COW is a breakthrough for public safety agencies that have been reliant on the Certificate of Authorization (COA) process. Under the revamped process, agencies are provided with a streamlined approach to approval that has been said to take weeks instead of the lengthy process previously used. In this new COW process, agencies can adopt DFR by waiving certain provisions of 14 CFR 91.113, 91.119, and 91.155. This new self-select checklist includes the provision of an ASTM F3322 parachute recovery system for flight over people in non-life saving situations:
“sUA weighing more than 0.88lbs. including all required equipage and payload, will be equipped and operated with a Parachute Recovery System (PRS) that conforms to ASTM F3322-18 or newer standard; only if requesting to operate over people in non-life saving situations.”

ABOUT ASTM F3322-24a
The ASTM F3322 parachute recovery system testing standard was developed by industry stakeholders as well as representatives from the FAA in late 2018 after more than a year of work. The ASTM F3322-24a version is a revised version published in December 2024 and increased the number of tests from 45 to 49. The completion of the ASTM F3322-24a testing with a third-party organization, along with the required engineering analysis, has also been acknowledged by numerous regulators worldwide as a key third-party validated test to enable commercial drones to fly over people.
